EVIDENCE - BASED TEACHING
Effective teaching involves creating a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages students to actively participate in the learning process. It requires clear communication, well-planned lessons, and the ability to adapt to the needs of individual students. Effective teachers also provide constructive feedback and support to help students achieve their full potential.

INTERVENTION
At Clayton View Primary School, we are committed to ensuring every student experiences success in their learning. Our Intervention Program provides targeted support for students who require additional assistance in literacy and numeracy. Students are identified for intervention based on assessment data collected by teachers through the school’s assessment schedule. Those performing below the expected level are offered Tier 2 intervention to strengthen their foundational skills.
In literacy, we use the MacqLit and MiniLit programs, evidence-based interventions grounded in the explicit instruction model. These small-group sessions target each student’s specific learning needs and include regular assessment to monitor progress and guide next steps. Sessions operate on a rolling timetable to minimise disruption to classroom learning and are delivered in small groups to maximise each student’s opportunity for ongoing improvement.
Our program has achieved excellent results, with all participating students demonstrating significant improvement in their literacy skills. A numeracy intervention program based on the same successful model will be implemented soon to further support our students learning and achievement.

LITERACY
At Clayton View Primary School, we believe that strong literacy skills open the door to lifelong learning. Our literacy program is built on evidence-based practices and explicit instruction, ensuring every child receives clear, structured, and high-quality teaching in reading, writing, and spelling.
Through carefully planned lessons, our teachers use proven strategies, including systematic phonics, guided reading, and modelled writing, to help students develop confidence and a love of reading. Each student is supported and extended at their point of need, allowing them to thrive and make meaningful progress.
Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our results. Clayton View Primary School’s NAPLAN Reading scores have shown strong improvement, with three times more students achieving high levels of progress compared to other similar schools. This growth reflects the dedication of our staff and the power of effective, evidence-based teaching.
At Clayton View, we are proud to see our students becoming skilled, engaged readers and writers, ready to succeed in all areas of learning and beyond.

NUMERACY
At Clayton View Primary School, we are passionate about helping every child develop a deep understanding and love of mathematics. Our Maths program is founded on evidence-based practices and explicit instruction, providing students with clear, structured lessons that build strong numeracy foundations and problem-solving skills.
Teachers use proven strategies and a consistent whole-school approach to ensure all students experience success. Lessons are designed to be purposeful, engaging, and carefully sequenced, moving from concrete, hands-on learning to abstract thinking. This approach helps students not only master key mathematical concepts but also apply their understanding to real-world situations.
To provide targeted support, Clayton View has implemented a Maths Intervention Group in the early childhood area. This specialised program focuses on identifying and addressing students’ specific learning needs, offering additional small-group instruction to strengthen number sense, counting, and foundational problem-solving skills. By intervening early, we ensure students gain the confidence and understanding needed for continued success in mathematics.
Through targeted support and extension, every learner is challenged at their point of need. At Clayton View, we are proud to see our students growing as confident mathematicians who enjoy learning, think critically, and approach challenges with persistence.
